Women, Children and Boat, Cairo, Egypt

On the way to visit the Stepped Pyramid of Djoser at Saqqara, a few miles outside of Cairo, we passed this scene of women helping children into a boat and noticed a rope stretched from shore to shore.  I assumed that the boat moved across by pulling on the rope. There were no bridges spanning to two roads on either side of the water for quite a distance, so the women most likely, solved the problem by moving a small boat across by pulley.  Ingenious, I think, but not so safe.
