During one of my weekly visits to the town of Canoa, on the flanks of the Malinche volcano, I ventured further up the mountain and came upon a woman and her mule. I spent quite a while here trying to get her to allow me to photograph her. The task was further complicated by the fact that she did not speak Spanish, and could not understand my request. After a long while, though, she even smiled for me.
At the time of my visits to Canoa, there were still many people speaking only Nahuatl, the language of the Aztecs.
