During my tour group's trip to Machu Picchu, we stopped to visit the town of Ollantaytambo. While the group took a tour of the town by tuk-tuk or motorized three-wheeled taxi, I decided to tour the town on foot. It is in Ollantaytambo that I took some of the most beautiful and colorful doors in all of Peru, which can be seen in my Doors, Windows and Balconies Gallery. In the very center of town, I spotted this intriguing and surprising scene of a wall mounted phone being shielded by a bent umbrella, under a hand-written sign announcing local calls for 20 centimos. The ads for Ollantaytambo tours and bottled water under a metal sign written in English, are a perfect foil for the surprising and unexpected scene of the umbrella covered phone.
