Awankancha Dyer, Cusco, Peru

During our trip to Machu Picchu, our tour group traveled on the Cusco to Pisac road through the Sacred Valley. Along the way, we stopped to visit Awanakancha, a small camelid farm dedicated to alpaca, llama and vicuña, and the intricate textiles produced from their wool.

This gentleman gave us a description of the dyeing of these various wools flanked by a rack of very colorful naturally dyed alpaca wool.  Following this demonstration the man invited me to photograph him and his daughter outside in the yard, where I also was fortunate to see a scene of the animals and the surrounding hillside.
